How it works

Focused light, correctly dosed.

Orthopaedic laser therapy, also called photobiomodulation, delivers focused light energy over the painful area through a handheld applicator. The device is FDA-cleared for temporary relief of minor muscle and joint pain and stiffness and temporary increase in local blood circulation. It is not a cure, and we will never dress it up as one: it is a short, comfortable, drug-free tool that earns its place inside a real plan.

  1. 01

    We map the area

A focused exam pinpoints the tissue driving your pain. There is no separate mapping visit: your assessment is folded into the first session.

  2. 02

    We dose it correctly

The Class IV laser is delivered on evidence-based, dose-responsive settings. You and the clinician wear protective eyewear, and most patients feel a gentle, soothing warmth over the area.

  3. 03

    You pair it with rehab

Laser works best as part of a plan, not instead of one. When it is the right course, it slots into the same visit as StemWave or physical therapy.

  4. 04

    We reassess honestly

If it is not helping by the midpoint of a package, we change course. You are paying for judgment as much as for light.

Common uses

Where we most often reach for the laser.

Usually as one part of a coordinated plan built on an exam, imaging when needed, and rehab. This list is education, not a promise: whether laser fits your case is confirmed at your first session, and conditions shockwave does not reach are often exactly where laser earns its keep.

  • Knee osteoarthritis pain
  • Joint arthritis pain
  • Tennis and golfer's elbow
  • Patellar and Achilles tendinopathy
  • Rotator cuff tendinopathy
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Bursitis
  • Recovery after surgery
  • Muscle and soft-tissue strains
  • Low back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Nerve-related pain
Straight talk

What laser can, and cannot, do.

You may have seen the headline about a pro athlete who came back months early because of laser. Here is the honest version, and it is still worth your attention.

What it can do

  • Provide temporary relief of minor muscle and joint pain and stiffness
  • Temporarily increase local blood circulation in the treated area
  • Make it more comfortable to move, train, and do your rehab work
  • Slot into the same visit as StemWave or physical therapy

What it cannot do

  • Cure arthritis or regrow cartilage
  • Replace surgery when surgery is truly needed
  • Do much on its own, without a real plan around it
  • Deliver the same result for every condition. If it is not right for yours, we will say so.
Is this you?

A drug-free next step that respects your time.

Laser tends to fit active adults who want to keep moving without medication, and patients whose problem area makes shockwave a poor fit. It pairs naturally with a structured rehab plan, which is why many patients fold it into the same visit as StemWave or physical therapy.

Your joint or tendon pain keeps coming back despite rest and basic care
You want a drug-free option with no needles and no scheduled downtime
Shockwave is uncomfortable or not the right fit for your problem area
You are recovering from surgery and want laser wrapped into the rehab plan
Real prices, no surprises

Know the cost before you book.

Orthopaedic Laser is cash only. You pay one posted price at the time of service and nothing arrives afterwards. There is no separate mapping visit: your assessment is folded into the first session.

Every price is per region treated: a knee, a shoulder, an elbow. Treating more than one region in the same course steps the package price up on a published schedule rather than doubling it, so each added region costs less than the first. The exact two, three, and four region figures are printed on the package cards below.

About this device

Class IV laser therapy is FDA-cleared (K051922, K111901) for temporary relief of minor muscle and joint pain and stiffness, and temporary increase in local blood circulation. It is not a cure, and individual results vary.

Better together

Built to share a visit with StemWave and PT.

Laser rarely works alone at JOI. It is engineered to slot into the care you are already getting, in the same room, on the same day.

Same-visit add-on

Already coming in? Add the laser.

If you are in for a StemWave or physical therapy visit the same day, add an Orthopaedic Laser treatment for $50. Same room, same appointment, a few extra minutes.

StemWave + Laser combo

Both therapies, one session.

Shockwave and laser in a single visit, priced together on the card above: one region for $300, with multi-region and 10-visit combo figures published on the same card. Which tool leads, or whether you need both, is decided at your exam.

Questions

Laser therapy, answered honestly.

Class IV laser therapy is FDA-cleared for temporary relief of minor muscle and joint pain and stiffness and temporary increase in local blood circulation. In practice we most often use it for arthritic joint pain, tendon and soft-tissue pain, and as one part of a recovery plan after surgery. Whether it fits your specific problem is confirmed at your visit, and if it is not right for your condition we will tell you so plainly.
