A subchondral insufficiency fracture is a small break in the bone just beneath the knee's joint surface, and it can produce sudden, stubborn pain in a knee whose cartilage still looks reasonable. Left unsupported, the bone can collapse and take the joint with it, which is how some knees end up replaced.
The KneeBar exists for exactly that window: the bone is injured, the joint is still worth keeping, and doing nothing risks losing it. It addresses the failing bone directly instead of masking the pain and waiting.

Confirm the diagnosis
Subchondral insufficiency fractures and bone marrow lesions show up on MRI, not always on X-ray. The first step is confirming that the bone beneath your joint surface is actually the pain generator.

A percutaneous procedure
Through needle-sized openings, fluoroscopy-guided, bio-integrative implants are placed just beneath the joint surface to support the injured bone. No joint is opened and no bone is removed.

Support while the bone heals
The implants act like rebar for the weakened area, designed to carry load from day one while your bone heals around them, per the manufacturer.

Integration over time
The implant material is engineered to be gradually remodeled and replaced by your own bone rather than remaining as permanent hardware, per the manufacturer.
About the implant
The KneeBar uses OSSIO’s bio-integrative, fiber-reinforced implant rather than permanent metal hardware. Descriptions of how the material integrates and remodels are the manufacturer’s, and individual results vary. It is not a treatment for arthritis and does not regrow cartilage.

The office price covers the procedure, the in-office surgical suite, local anesthesia, supplies, and routine post-op follow-up. No separate facility bill arrives later.
